We appreciate your visit to our website. We would like to explain how we handle your data pursuant to article 13, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as follows.

3. Data protection on the website

3.1 Storing the IP address

We store the IP address transmitted from your web browser strictly for the intended purpose for a period of seven days in order to detect, limit and eliminate potential attacks on our internet pages. Upon expiration of this timeframe, we delete and/or anonymize the IP address. The legal basis for this is article 6 section 1 F) GDPR.

3.2 Usage Data 

For statistical reasons, we temporarily store so-called usage data on our webserver as a log when you visit our internet site, in an effort to improve the quality of our internet site. This data set is comprised of

  • the page from which the file was requested,
  • the file name,
  • the date and time of the request,
  • the data volume transmitted,
  • the access status (file transmitted, file not found)),
  • the description of the web browser type used,
  • the IP address of the requesting PC, which is abbreviated so that it cannot be associated with a person. 

The protocol data is only stored anonymously. 

3.3 Data Security

We take technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unwanted access as much as possible. We use an encryption procedure on our pages. Your information is transmitted from your PC to our server and vice versa through the internet via a SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognize this because the status bar of your browser shows the lock symbol and the address line begins with https:// .

3.4 Data Transmission to Third Parties 

We transmit your data within the framework of contractual processing pursuant to article 28 GDPR to service providers, who assist us with operating our internet pages (for example hosts, internet agencies, web analysis service providers) and the corresponding processes. Our service providers strictly operate based on our directives and are contractually obligated accordingly.

3.5 Cookies

We use cookies on our internet pages. 

Cookies are small text files which are stored and read on your end-device. Cookies are separated into session cookies that will be deleted when you close your browser and permanent cookies which are stored beyond the individual sessions. Cookies may contain data enabling recognition of the device used. Cookies may also contain information about certain settings, which however cannot be associated with a specific person.  

We use session cookies and permanent cookies on our Internet pages. The information is processed pursuant to article 6 section 1 f) GDPR to optimize and/or enable user guidance and adapt how our internet page is displayed. 

You can configure your browser so it will notify you when cookies are placed. This will make you aware of how and when cookies are used. In addition, you can delete the cookies via your browser settings at any time and prevent new cookies from being placed. Please be advised that in such cases our internet pages may not be optimally displayed and certain functions will not be available.

3.6 Forwarding to Other Internet Pages

Our internet pages contain links to other providers’ web offers. You will be able to recognize these offers, for example based on a logo, or because another browser window will open. If these offers are not web offers posted by the VBN GmbH, the Privacy Act regulations of the respective provider shall apply. This applies for the Facebook logo, the YouTube logo or our partner’s internet pages. 

3.7 Integrated Vimeo Videos

We integrate the Vimeo, Incorporated, 555 West 18th Street (New York), New York 10011 (www.vimeo.com) video player services on our internet pages and applications. These videos are embedded in our site as an iFrame. When you access these pages, your browser (terminal device) connects to the Vimeo servers. Under certain circumstances, your data, such as your IP address and the device you use to access the page, as well as your activities may be processed. By accessing the videos and other interactions with the video player service, additional information regarding your person may be processed by Vimeo in order to, for example, analyse the videos you have viewed or other interests. 

Vimeo also uses so-called web tracking methods on their pages as well as within the scope of the video player services. These are utilized regardless whether you are registered with Vimeo or not. Unfortunately, we are not able to influence the Vimeo web tracking methods or corresponding services. 

Please be aware: it cannot be excluded that Vimeo uses your profile information to analyse your general location, interests, or the videos viewed etc. We are not able to influence the data processing procedure applied by Vimeo and corresponding services.

3.8 FahrPlaner Timetable Services

On our website and in our applications, we also integrate the timetable services of the company HaCon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, Lister Straße 15, 30163 Hannover. The FahrPlaner timetable is integrated in our pages via a so-called layout-loader.

If you access these pages, your browser (terminal device) connects to the HaCon servers. Your data, such as your IP address and the terminal device you use for visiting the page, as well as your interaction within the FahrPlaner application will be processed. This includes the following applications at https://fahrplaner.vbn.de/hafas/query.exe/en and the following subpages: Timetable Information, Departure/Arrival Query, Station Timetable, Commuter Timetable, TripPlanner International, My TripPlanner, Ticket Offices, Bike+Ride, Park+Ride, Station Info and Leisuretime Offers / Excursion Suggestions.  

Please note that certain applications will use your current location for searching, for example, for the selected current start and final destination connection within in the mobile transportation information upon your consent. 

3.9 MobileTicket (VBN-HandyTicket)

We integrate the services and applications of EOS UPTRADE GmbH, Schanzenstraße 70, 20357 Hamburg on our internet pages. The applications and the respective sub-pages at https://shop.vbn.de/index.php/login are integrated via a so-called layout-loader on our pages.

By accessing these pages, a connection between your browser and the servers of EOS UPTRADE takes place. In this process, data from you, such as your IP address, the device you are using as well as interactions with the application, are processed and stored during page visits.

By submitting the registration form and the subsequent use of the VBN-HandyTicket, further personal data of you will be processed by EOS UPTRADE GmbH, see chapter 8. HandyTicket.

3.10 Application and Contact Forms 

We offer an option to complete application and contact forms on our internet page. The aforementioned are processed pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR and are used to implement preliminary contractual measures, for example in relation to praise or critique or the Bus Driving School, based on article 6 section 1 b) GDPR for the purpose of responding to you and/or being able to process the project.

3.10.1 Customer Cards, Adults and Children/Students  

The information entered in the form available at https://www.vbn.de/tickets/antraege/antrag-kundenkarte-erwachsene.html and https://www.vbn.de/tickets/antraege/antrag-kundenkarte-kinder.html is stored in a back office system of the internet page and will be deleted twice a year, after six months at the latest.

3.10.2 BOB Ticket

When using the form available at https://www.vbn.de/nc/tickets/antraege/bob-ticket.html, the information will be stored in a back office system of the internet page and will be deleted twice a year, after six months at the latest.

3.10.3 MIA/MIAplus Ticket

When using the form available at https://www.vbn.de/nc/tickets/antraege/antrag-mia.html, the information will be stored in a back office system of the internet page and will be deleted twice a year, after six months at the latest.

3.10.4 Youth-LeisuretimeTicket (JFT)

When using the form available at https://www.vbn.de/tickets/antraege/jugend-freizeit-ticket.html, the information will be stored in a back office system of the internet page and will be deleted twice a year, after six months at the latest.

3.10.5 Praise and Critique (Lob und Kritik)

We integrate the service of Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG), Flughafendamm 12, 28199 Bremen on our websites and applications. The application and the respective subpages under https://www.vbn.de/kontakt/lob-kritik.html are integrated with the help of a so-called iframe within our website.

When you access these pages, a connection is established between your browser (terminal) and the BSAG servers. In the process, data from you, such as your IP address and the device you are using, are processed during page visits and interactions within the application "Lob und Kritik".

You can also fill out this form without providing any personal data. A reply is not possible in such case. When submitting the form with personal data, the notes under 10) praise and critique are applied.

3.10.6 BusSchool 

When using the form available at https://www.vbn.de/fahrgastinformation/busschule/anmeldeformular.html the information will be stored in a back office system of the internet page and will be deleted twice a year, after six months at the latest.

4. BOB-Ticket

4.1 Reasons and Legal Principles for Data processing 

We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, salutation, your date of birth, your banking information, and, if applicable, your telephone and fax number and/or your e-mail address, as well as ticket data pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR for the purpose of contract fulfilment and implementing preliminary contractual measures. This also includes the corresponding customer service.

4.2 Recipient of Personal Data 

The required data you have provided for processing your order are processed and stored by the transportation companies Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG), Flughafendamm 12, 28199 Bremen, the Bremerhavener Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (BVV), Zur Hexenbrücke 11, 27570 Bremerhaven and Verkehr und Wasser GmbH (VWG), Felix-Wankel-Straße 9, 26125 Oldenburg pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR on our behalf by regional delimitation. Our justified interest is the outsourcing of order processing.

The above entities commission service providers for preparing and sending the cards on our behalf. Credit institutions are commissioned for processing payments. In the event of non-payment, the transportation company will transfer your data to a collection agency for collection on behalf of the VBN. 

In the event of insufficient credit, an entitlement for issuance of a BOB Ticket does not exist. Therefore your data will be forwarded to a background check bureau for assessing and obtaining credit information pursuant to article 6 section 1 f) GDPR. In the event of arrears, the transportation company will transfer your data to a collection agency for collection on behalf of VBN. 4.3 Duration of Data Storage 

Personal data is only stored for the duration of the retention obligations mandated by law and as required to achieve the respective purpose.

5. MIA-/MIAplus-Ticket

5.1 Purpose and Legal Principles of Data processing

We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, title, your date of birth, your banking information, and, if applicable, your telephone and fax number and/or your e-mail address, as well as ticket data pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR for the purpose of contract fulfilment and implementing preliminary contractual measures. This also includes any corresponding customer service.

5.2 Recipient of Personal Data 

The required data you have provided for processing your order are processed and stored by the transportation companies Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG), Flughafendamm 12, 28199 Bremen, the Bremerhavener Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (BVV), Zur Hexenbrücke 11, 27570 Bremerhaven and Verkehr und Wasser GmbH (VWG), Felix-Wankel-Straße 9, 26125 Oldenburg pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR on our behalf by regional delimitation. Our justified interest is the outsourcing of order processing.

We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, title, your date of birth, your photo as well as ticket data pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR for the purpose of contract fulfilment and implementing preliminary contractual measures. This also includes any corresponding customer service.

6.2 Recipient of Personal Data 

The required data you have provided for processing your order are processed and stored by the transportation companies Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG), Flughafendamm 12, 28199 Bremen, die Bremerhavener Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (BVV), Zur Hexenbrücke 11, 27570 Bremerhaven and Verkehr und Wasser GmbH (VWG), Felix-Wankel-Straße 9, 26125 Oldenburg pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR on our behalf by regional delimitation. We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, title, your date of birth, you banking information, your employer and  ticket data pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR for the purpose of contract fulfilment and implementing preliminary contractual measures. This also includes the corresponding customer service.

7.2 Recipient of Personal Data 

The required data you have provided for processing your order are processed and stored by the transportation companies Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG), Flughafendamm 12, 28199 Bremen, the Bremerhavener Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (BVV), Zur Hexenbrücke 11, 27570 Bremerhaven and Verkehr und Wasser GmbH (VWG), Felix-Wankel-Straße 9, 26125 Oldenburg pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR on our behalf by regional delimitation. Our justified interest is the outsourcing of order processing.

7.3 Duration of Data Storage 

Personal data is only stored for the duration of the retention obligations mandated by law and required to achieve the respective purpose.

8. MobileTicket (VBN-HandyTicket)

8.1 Purpose and Legal Principles of Data processing

We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, title, your date of birth, your e-mail address, preferred payment method, account information including IBAN and / other credit card data, answer to your security question, as well as the order processes with the following information: IP address, first and last name for personalizing the ticket, as well as ticket data pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR for the purpose of contract fulfilment. The user agent / device information is collected pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR for a justified interest. The justified interest is system optimization, quality assurance and fraud prevention. This also includes any corresponding customer service. 

8.2 Recipient of Personal Data 

The required data you have provided which are necessary for processing your order will be processed and stored by the EOS UPTRADE GmbH, Schanzenstraße 70, pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR on our behalf. Our justified interest is the outsourcing of the background system, creating the ticket and hosting to a service provider.

We forward your personal information (first and last name, date of birth, address, e-mail address, account information, credit card information, mobile telephone number if applicable, as well as data regarding your respective ticket purchases) and all updates to LogPay Financial Services GmbH, Schwalbacher Straße 72, 65760 Eschborn for the purpose of sales and assigning our claims against you incurred in correspondence to the ticket sale pursuant to article 6 section 1 f) GDPR. Our justified interest is the outsourcing of payment processing and claim management. The justified interest of LogPay Financial Services GmbH is the data collection for the purpose of processing payments, claim management, assessment of authorized payment methods and prevention of non-payment.

You may object to transmitting the data to the  EOS UPTRADE GmbH und an die LogPay Financial Service GmbH at any time, however, in this case you can no longer place an order via the electronic sales channel.

8.3 Duration of Data Storage 

Personal data is only stored for the duration of the retention obligations mandated by law and required to achieve the respective purpose.

9. Customer Card Application

9.1 Purpose and Legal Principles of Data Processing

We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, address  and your telephone number your date of birth (only customer card application for children, pupils, students and apprentices), school / university / company name (only customer card application for children, pupils, students and apprentices) as well as ticket information pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR and section 3.2.1 of the VBN tariff regulations for the purpose of preliminary contractual measures, such as issuing a customer card to you.

9.2 Recipient of Personal Data

The data provided by you, which are necessary for the issuance of the customer card, will be processed and stored on our behalf by the VBN transport companies (https://en.vbn.de/vbn/carriers-and-other-partners.html) according to article 6 paragraph 1 f) DSGVO. Our legitimate interest is to give you many opportunities in the VBN area to receive a customer card.

You have the right to enter an objection regarding the processing. This can be done, for example, by email to datenschutz [at]vbn .de or by post to Verkehrsverbund Bremen/Niedersachsen, Am Wall 165-167, 28195 Bremen. Your personal data will then be deleted unless there are no legitimate interests in a further processing.

9.3 Duration of Data Storage

Your information will be deleted after one year. 

10. Praise and Critique (Lob und Kritik)

10.1 Purpose and Legal Principles of Data processing

We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, address, e-mail address and telephone number, as well as your inquiry pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR. Our justified interest is to process your inquiry quickly and effectively and forward it to the appropriate agency. Processing is consolidated amongst the transportation companies (https://en.vbn.de/vbn/carriers-and-other-partners.html) within the associated territories and the regional authorities.

10.2 Recipient of Personal Data

The specific inquiry is forwarded to the appropriate agency responsible for addressing your inquiry. This may include the individual transportation companies or regional authorities, such as the administration union Bremen/Niedersachsen and/or the counties and municipalities located within associated territory.

We have commissioned external service providers for providing hosting services and developing the database. Hosting services are provided by Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG), Am Flughafendamm 12, 28199 Bremen, database development is provided by SIGNON Deutschland GmbH, Schützenstraße 15-17, 10117 Berlin; both companies operate strictly by directive.

You have right to object to the processing of your data. You may do so, for example, at datenschutz [at]vbn .de or by sending a message to the Verkehrsverbund Bremen/Niedersachsen, Am Wall 165-167, 28195 Bremen. Your personal data will then be deleted, provided it may not be processed for the purpose of maintaining justified interests.

10.3 Duration of Data Storage 

The information required for a response will be deleted after 18 months. Your inquiry will be anonymized.

11. Warranty

11.1 Purpose and Legal Principles of Data processing

We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number and, if applicable, your account information as well as your inquiry (warranty case) pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR. Our justified interest is to process your inquiry quickly and efficiently and forward it to the appropriate agency. Processing is consolidated amongst the transportation companies (https://en.vbn.de/vbn/carriers-and-other-partners.html) within the associated territories and the regional authorities.

11.2 Recipient of Personal Data

The specific inquiry is forwarded to the appropriate agency responsible for addressing the inquiry. This may include the individual transportation companies or regional authorities, such as the administration union Bremen/Niedersachsen and/or the counties and municipalities located within associated territory.

You may contact us via telephone, e-mail and postal service. We process customer data, more specifically, your name address, e-mail address, telephone number pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR. Our justified interest is to process your inquiry quickly and efficiently and forward it to the appropriate agency. Processing is consolidated amongst the transportation companies (https://en.vbn.de/vbn/carriers-and-other-partners.html) within the associated territories. We only process the information you made available to us in order to contact you as requested.

12.2 Recipient of Personal Data

The specific inquiry is forwarded to the appropriate agency responsible for addressing your inquiry. This may include the individual transportation companies within the administration union Bremen/Niedersachsen.

You have right to object to the processing of your data. Your personal data will then be deleted, provided it may not be processed for the purpose of maintaining justified interests.

13. BusSchool

13.1 Purpose and Legal Principles of Data processing

We process the customer data, more specifically, your name, your school, the school’s contact data pursuant to article 6 section 1 b) GDPR with the justified interest to process the BusSchool implementation and training the bus staff.

13.2 Recipient of Personal Data

The VBN offers the BusSchool and bus staff training in collaboration with the Transportation company Allerbus, represented by Verden-Walsroder Eisenbahn GmbH (VWE), Moorstraße 2a 27283 Verden and Verkehrsbetriebe Wesermarsch GmbH (VBW), Arthur-Lückemeyer-Weg 2, 26954 Nordenham. The personal data is exchanged between these partners for the purpose of processing the project. 

You have right to object to the processing of your data. Your personal data will then be deleted, provided it may not be processed for the purpose of maintaining justified interests.

13.3 Duration of Data Storage

The information will be deleted after 12 months.

14. Sweepstakes

14.1 Purpose and Legal Principles of Data processing

We process the data of sweepstake participants, more specifically, your name and address pursuant to article 6 section 1 f) GDPR with the justified interest to process the sweepstakes. The winners will be notified in writing. 

14.2 Recipient of Personal Data

Not forwarded to third parties. 

You have right to object to the processing of your data. You may do so, for example, at datenschutz [at]vbn .de or by sending a message to the Verkehrsverbund Bremen/Niedersachsen, Am Wall 165-167, 28195 Bremen. Your personal data will then be deleted, provided it may not be processed for the purpose of maintaining justified interests.

14.3 Duration of Data Storage

In accordance with statutory taxation and commercial specifications, information on sweepstake winners will be retained for up to 10 years and deleted thereafter. 

15. Applications

15.1 Purpose and Legal Principles of Data Processing 

We process the applicants’ information, such as your name and address, as well as other personal information you have provided pursuant article 6 section 1 f) GDPR with the justified interest to process the application procedure.

15.2 Recipient of Personal Data

Not forwarded to third parties. 

You have right to object to the processing of your data. You may do so, for example, at datenschutz@vbn.de or by sending a message to the Verkehrsverbund Bremen/Niedersachsen, Am Wall 165-167, 28195 Bremen. Your personal data will then be deleted, provided it may not be processed for the purpose of maintaining justified interests.

15.3 Duration of Data Storage

The data will be deleted 6 months after the selection process has been concluded, provided an employment contract has not been offered.

16. User’s Rights

When processing your personal data, GDPR shall grant you certain rights:

16.1 Right to Information (article 15 GDPR): 

You have the right to request confirmation whether personal data concerning your person will be processed; if this is the case, you have the right to obtain information regarding the personal data which is defined in detail in article 15 GDPR.

16.2 Right to Rectification and Erasure of Personal Data (articles 16 and 17 GDPR): 

You have the right to request immediate correction of your personal data and if applicable, to request completion of incomplete personal data.

In addition, you have the right to request deletion of your personal data if one of the reasons defined in Art. 17 GDPR should apply, for example if the information is no longer required to pursue the intended purpose. 

16.3 Right to Restriction of Processing of Personal Data (article 18 GDPR): 

You have the right to request to restrict the personal data to be processed if one of the conditions outlined in article 18 GDPR should apply, for example if you have objected to data processing for the duration of an potential audit. 

16.4 Right to Data Portability (article 20 GDPR): 

In certain cases, which are outlined in detail in article 20 GDPR, you have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, customary and machine-readable format and/or request the transfer of this data to a third party.  

16.5 Right to Object (article 21 GDPR): 

If data is collected based on article 6 section 1 f) (processing data for protection of justified interests), you have the right to object to processing your personal data for reasons resulting from your personal situation at any time. We will then no longer process your personal data, unless verifiable and compelling legitimate reasons for processing the data, which exceed the interests, rights and freedom of the party involved should apply, or if processing this data is required to claim, exercise or defend legal entitlements.

16.6 Right to Lodge a Complaint with a Supervisory Authority 

Pursuant to article 77 GDPR you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority if, in your opinion, processing your personal data is in violation with the Privacy Act Policy. The right to appeal may particularly be exercised in your member state residence, your place of employment or the place of the alleged violation.

In the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen the proper regulatory authority is the Controller for Data and Freedom of Information for Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, Arndtstraße 1, 27570 Bremerhaven.

17. Automated Decision Making
